About The Event
The Big Parade, directed by King Vidor and starring John Gilbert and Renee Adoree, is an award willing film from 1926 which depicts the horrors of WWI. Packing theaters in the US for over a year, it is one of the highest grossing films of the time. One of America's most revered and talented artists, Andrew Wyeth, first saw this fim when he was ony eight years old with his father, noted artist N.C. Wyeth, and since watched the film over 180 times throughout his life. He was fascinated with the cinematography and began to draw images of soldiers during wartime, which influenced several of his most famous paintings including the iconic 'Christina's World', now at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Arrive early, as Blackwood Arts has been given special permission by the Brandywine Museum of Art to show images of some of the art inspired by this film by Andrew Wyeth, his father N.C. Wyeth, his sister Ann Wyeth McCoy, and son Jamie Wyeth. Organist John Lautner, who first performed at Blackwood last year, will return to accompany this film. He has accompanied the film several times and is eager to return to Blackwood Arts again this year. Don't miss this opportunity to see this film as it was originally shown in theaters. Running time 150 minutes.
